The Ramey Agency has restructured following the October 1999 death of founder Thomas G. Ramey.
Christopher Ray, 33, former vice president and general manager of Archer/Malmo in Memphis, Tenn., has been named chief executive officer of the Ridgeland, Miss., agency. Prior to Archer/
Malmo, Ray spent 10 years at Ramey. In the final years of that tenure, he opened and managed the shop's Memphis division.
Denton Gibbes has been elevated to president at Ramey. Gibbes, 38, had been senior vice president and director of public relations.
Ray and Gibbes join agency partners and vice presidents Donna Cox and Jim Garrison, chief financial officer and production services director, respectively, as owners. Gary Gusick is senior vice president and creative director at the $30 million shop.
Ray acknowledged feeling "bittersweet" in returning to the shop after Ramey's death. He said he was approached by Cox and Garrison soon after he attended Ramey's funeral "and we realized we were still all old friends."
Ray, who called his new responsibilities "terrifying and exciting," said, "There was a lot of momentum at the time of Tommy's death. The biggest deal is building on that momentum."
