Win Is Agency's First With Haskell on Board
LOS ANGELES--Colby Effler & Partners has won its first new account since hiring former TBWA Chiat/Day executive Kim Haskell as executive vice president in charge of its new business efforts.
Computer utility software manufacturer Quarterdeck Corp. has selected the Santa Monica, Calif., shop to handle trade and consumer ad duties. The agency won the business after a review of undisclosed California shops, according to Suzanne Dickson, Quarterdeck's vice president of product marketing. Billings are undisclosed, but the client spent $7 million on ads in 1997, according to Competitive Media Reporting.
"It was imperative that we partner with an agency that took a fresh and nontraditional view of our business," Dickson said.
Media buying for the Marina del Rey, Calif.-based client was previously handled by CKS Partners in Cupertino, Calif., which did not participate in the review. Creative duties were handled in-house.
"We presented Quarterdeck with a way they could position themselves, a way they could own the position in the workplace," said Rick Colby, agency president and executive creative director.
Quarterdeck has been mired in financial woes and management changes over the last three years. Its stock was valued at less than $1 a share last week, compared with close to $40 a share in late 1995.
