CALIFORNIA

ClearPath, a provider of network-based VPN and security services for small businesses, appointed Kenneth Simril chief financial officer. He will be responsible for managing and coordinating the Los Angeles company's strategic financial direction, which includes budgeting, planning, development and resource allocations. Simril most recently was vice pres- ident of finance at New Jersey-based Global Crossing.

Diego Cantu joined Irvine-based Hispanic agency Mendoza Dillon as vice president and creative director. Reporting to chief creative officer Carlos Mendez at the Young & Rubicam Brands shop, Cantu will lead the development of campaigns for clients such as Cingular Wireless, Unilever and Pfizer. He formerly was senior creative director at Latinworks Marketing in Austin, Texas.



CONNECTICUT

Diane Woodruff advanced from manager of business development to director of business development at Cronin & Co. in Glastonbury. Woodruff has been with Cronin for two years. Her experience includes working with clients such as Aetna and Scandinavian Airlines. In addition, Jeanne Corcoran Wiggin was promoted from account executive to senior account executive in Cronin's public relations division. She has been at the shop for three years, spearheading programs for Mystic Aquarium, the Connecticut Department of Transportation and Bertucci's.



GEORGIA

Mark Kessler joined Studiocom in Atlanta as director of operations, supervising the production of all of the agency's work. Most recently, Kessler was the interactive design manager for Philips Design in the U.S. and Philips Design Interactive Worldwide, working with most of the Philips Electronics divisions and brands. He also has worked for agencies and clients in Australia, Thailand and Hong Kong.

Kim Hunt arrived at Atlanta-based WestWayne as vice president and director of business development. She is responsible for all new-business development at the agency's Atlanta and Tampa, Fla., offices. Hunt has worked on new-business development at agencies such as Saatchi & Saatchi, Grey and Arnold, all in New York. Her client experience includes McDonald's, Movado and the New York State Lottery. Most recently, she was a business development consultant for The List, an Atlanta company that provides new-business leads to paying subscribers.



ILLINOIS

Starcom USA in Chicago named group client leader Chris Boothe an executive vice president. A 17-year veteran of the agency, Boothe leads the Miller Brewing, Cannon and Gap accounts. He also recently added oversight of the shop's broadband-video and sports-broadcast activities to his responsibilities.

Julian Cohen, a group strategic planner at DDB in Chicago, was named a senior vice president. Cohen, who joined the agency in 1998 as a strategic planner, oversees planning for clients such as Cars.com, Dell, Henkel and OfficeMax.



MASSACHUSETTS

Modernista! hired Eve Nicolaou as a traffic coordinator. She will work on the agency's TIAA-CREF business. Prior to joining the Boston shop, Nicolaou was at Fedle & Murray, a crosstown law firm, and she has held posts at publishing concern Houghton Mifflin. In addition, Modernista! named Ericka Stahlnecker a traffic coordinator. She will work on the shop's flagship account, General Motors' Hummer. Stahlnecker is a recent graduate of Boston University.



MICHIGAN

Kathy Sziisz joined McCann Erickson in Detroit as director of human resources. Sziisz will be responsible for updating and implementing the agency's employee-evaluation process, as well as training and recruiting at the 300-person shop. Prior to her appointment at McCann, she was human resources manager at Campbell-Ewald in Warren, managing a nine-person department.



NEW JERSEY

HealthStar Advertising in Woodbridge named Tami Beth Bloom account supervisor. Bloom, who reports to executive vice president and general manager Bob Karczewski, will manage the launch of Lamisil DermGel, an athlete's-foot treatment from Novartis Consumer Health. Before joining HealthStar, she was senior account supervisor at Krell Advertising in Flemington, where she worked on several Merck accounts, including Zocor and Maxalt.



NEW YORK

Mary Ferris progressed to account director on Unilever's Axe at Bartle Bogle Hegarty in New York. In her new role, she will be responsible for managing all aspects of advertising development for the deodorant body spray. Ferris began her career in advertising at BBH in 2000, when she was hired as an account assistant. Since then, she has worked as assistant account manager and account manager on brands that include Reebok Classic, Levi's, Match.com and Axe, as well as on a number of new-business pitches for the agency.

John Gerzema, former managing partner, international at Fallon, joined Young & Rubicam as chief insights officer, a new, North American post. Based in New York, Gerzema, who had spent 12 years at Fallon, is part of Y&R's new, five-person Catalyst Team. Gerzema reports to worldwide CEO Ann Fudge.



RHODE ISLAND

Deb Hebner arrived at Nail Communications in Providence as a senior designer. She had been at Arnold in Boston, working on accounts such as Citizens Bank and Royal Caribbean. At Nail, Hebner will design corporate-identity materials such as brochures, trade-show booths, Web sites and other marketing work for Berkshire Blankets, Gordini Gloves and Macgregor Software. In addition, Nail hired Sherif Fahmy as a brand manager. He had been with crosstown agency J. Winsper & Co. At Nail, Fahmy will oversee accounts such as Kayem Foods and King Arthur Flour. He will also coordinate publicity for the shop.



TEXAS

Fogarty Klein Monroe promoted account manager Crystal Dietert to senior account manager. In her new position at the shop's Dallas office, Dietert will continue to support the VHA and Daisy brand accounts. In addition, the agency installed two employees at its Houston headquarters. Stefanie Drake and Charlie Moore joined FKM as account executive and junior art director, respectively. Drake formerly worked in brand marketing analysis for Whataburger; Moore is a recent graduate of the University of Texas at Austin.

The Loomis Agency appointed Paul Zorad a print negotiator. He joins the Dallas shop from Zorad Graphic Arts, where he served as a sales manager. Zorad will work on the Texas Dairy Queen, Cargokids, Pro-Cuts and Stanley Steemer International accounts.
