CALIFORNIA
Rubin Postaer and Associates subsidiary Open Minds hired Jennifer Matsler as media associate. She will be responsible for research, planning and buying of media for the Irvine agency's clients and will also work on media placement, events and promotions. Matsler, 27, joins the shop from MediaVest in Los Angeles, where she was a senior media planner.

FilmCore in San Francisco added editor Tim Fender to its creative staff. Fender formerly was with Bob & Sheila's Edit World in San Francisco. He has worked on spots for Budweiser, Electronic Arts and The Wall Street Journal.

Marcie Malooly joined R!ot in Santa Monica as managing director. Previously vice president and executive producer of Industrial Light + Magic Commercial Productions, Malooly will now oversee all day-to-day activities at R!ot, including staffing, financial management, sales, marketing and client relations.



FLORIDA
Crispin, Porter + Bogusky hired Franklin Tipton as senior copywriter. He will work on the Miami shop's Mini and Virgin Atlantic Airways accounts. Tipton comes to CP+B from Fallon in Minneapolis, where he was a copywriter. His résumé also includes stops at J. Walter Thompson in London and New York.



ILLINOIS
Arnold Worldwide Partners in Chicago appointed Ron Wolters senior vice president, group director. Wolters joined the agency in 1997 as group director for the Harris Bank account and was named vice president in 2001. A veteran of the Chicago advertising community, his résumé lists Young & Rubicam and Foote, Cone & Belding, among other shops. Arnold also named James Hickey senior vice president, director of media services.



MASSACHUSETTS

Shane Hutton and Will Uronis were elevated to creative directors at Boston independent Modernista! The pair for the past three years have been associate creative directors. They have worked on most of the shop's key accounts, including flagship client GM Hummer, and their advancement underscores their status as the agency's No. 2 creative team behind co-founders Lance Jensen and Gary Koepke. Hutton and Uronis joined Modernista! in October 2000 from Havas' Arnold in Boston, where they worked on Volkswagen. Hutton is a copywriter, and Uronis is an art director.



MICHIGAN
McCann-Erickson in Detroit promoted three staffers to senior vice president posts. They are Mark Canavan and Mark Reichard, creative directors; and Lesley Foy, regional account director. Senior art director John Beattie and creative director Michael Joiner were named vice presidents.



NEW JERSEY
Coyne Public Relations in Fairfield added two employees to its account-management team. Joe Clark, 36, was named account supervisor and will work with tech clients. Stefanie Brychcy, 23, was appointed assistant account executive in the company's consumer group. Previously, Clark worked as account manager at Wilson McHenry Co. in New York, where he dealt with clients such as Pioneer Electronics and Lucent's New Venture. His background also includes positions at Geltzer & Co., Rubenstein Associates and National Public Radio. Before joining Coyne, Brychcy handled business-to-business and consumer accounts at Stern + Associates in Cranford. There, she worked with KI, a furnishings manufacturer, pLot Multimedia Developers and Capezio Balletmakers.

The Star Group, a marketing- communications company in Cherry Hill, hired Cathy Schwartz, 56, as director of corporate communications. Her duties will include supervising and executing the firm's internal and external communications programs. Before joining The Star Group, Schwartz was director of communications at the Cherry Hill Township Office of the Mayor and was chief of staff for former Cherry Hill Mayor Susan Bass Levin.



NEW YORK
Producer Jason Menkes, 25, joined the creative staff of Sacred Noise, a New York studio that specializes in music and sound design for advertising campaigns, new-media projects, TV and independent film. Previously, Menkes was an agency music producer at Saatchi & Saatchi, a producer at tomandandy and music production coordinator at Grey, all in New York.

Matrix USA in New York appointed Cindy Riccio director of communications. She will report to Francesca Raminella, general manager, and her duties will include the development and execution of media programs for Matrix, a hair-care company. Previously, Riccio worked at The Rowland Co., served as account supervisor at Marina Maher Communications and was public relations director for Sara Lee Hosiery.

The James Group in New York named Paul Blakely associate creative director, a new post. Blakely, 35, formerly served as creative director and director of branding communications at SGW|Integrated Marketing Communications in Montville, N.J., where he worked on accounts that included Ansell, Lifestyles and Sony. Prior to that, Blakely co-founded and directed design consultancy Pinstripe Design Consultants in Ireland, where he served as creative director and designer.



NORTH CAROLINA
McKinney + Silver hired Anna Griffin as management supervisor. She will work on the Raleigh shop's Lands' End account. Prior to joining McKinney, Griffin founded a marketing- communications consultancy, where she worked for clients such as Apple Computer and Bank of America. Before launching Anna Griffin Consulting, she was director of brand management at MarchFirst in San Francisco. She began her career at McKinney in 1995 as an account executive on the Royal Caribbean business.



OREGON
Edelman promoted Kymra Knuth to vice president. Knuth, 35, joined the public relations practice in Portland more than a year ago as senior account supervisor. She has 12 years of technology public relations experience with clients that include Microsoft, Sun Microsystems and InFocus Corp. Knuth will continue to manage the global InFocus account.



TEXAS
The Point Group appointed Lyda Akin to its board of directors. She will continue to serve the Dallas shop as senior consultant and work with its account-service team. Akin's primary expertise is in residential and commercial real estate marketing.



WASHINGTON
Smashing Ideas, a digital-advertising shop in Seattle, hired Tiffany Young as creative director and Vanessa McCutcheon as account manager. Young, 32, previously was associate creative director at SF Interactive, working on projects for Cisco, Yahoo! and TiVo. McCutcheon, 30, had been interactive account manager at AKQA in San Francisco. Young and McCutcheon will work on WeightWatchers.com.
