BOSTON Incumbent Porter Novelli has withdrawn from the American Legacy Foundation's public relations review, the agency said.
The Omnicom shop in Washington, D.C., is pulling out of the pitch owing to the client's intention to restructure its internal communications department and reduce work for the winning PR agency, a Porter Novelli representative said.
Legacy officials could not immediately be reached.
Porter Novelli has held the Legacy account since the national anti-smoking program launched four years ago.
Remaining in the PR review are Omnicom's Fleishman-Hillard and Havas' Magnet Communications, both in New York; and Interpublic Group shops MWW Group, E. Rutherford, N.J. and Golin/Harris, Washington. A cut to finalists is due next week. The PR budget is approximately $2-4 million.
Creative chores on the $50-60 million ad account are being separately reviewed with the incumbent team of Havas' Arnold, Boston, and Maxxcom's Crispin Porter + Bogusky, Miami, defending against IPG's Campbell-Ewald, Warren, Mich., Omnicom's GSD&M, Austin, Texas and independent Wieden + Kennedy, Portland, Ore. Final presentations are set for next week.
Pile and Co., Boston, is managing both reviews.
