ATLANTA MDC Partners has named Chuck Porter chief strategist, the holding company said. The appointment formalizes Porter’s role with the Toronto-based network.

Porter, chairman of Crispin, Porter + Bogusky, has served as an informal adviser since January 2001, when he sold 49 percent of his Miami agency to MDC, then operating as Maxxcom.

As chief strategist, Porter will help shape the growth strategy of MDC by identifying potential partner agencies and companies. On July 31, 2003, the Toronto holding company privatized Maxxcom, absorbing it into MDC.
