Is the land of the pop-tab turning into the land of the corkscrew? Gallup’s latest poll on Americans’ preferences in alcoholic beverages suggests it is, as you can infer from the chart. The proportion of adults who drink alcohol (now 63 percent) has been relatively stable in the past decade, but there’s been great flux in drinkers’ beverage of choice. As recently as 2000, 43 percent said they most often drink beer, with wine (31 percent) and liquor (22 percent) lagging behind.
