NEW YORK -- Julie Pinkwater has resigned as publisher of More magazine, a spokesperson for Meredith Corp. confirmed, and sources familiar with the move say she is joining G+J USA as publisher of Fitness in place of the ousted Diane Newman.
Media buyers questioned why Newman was forced from the post she held since March 1998. After finishing 2000 with ad pages down 11.8 percent from the year before, Fitness, aided by a redesign in February, recorded flat ad volume this year through September, according to the Mediaweek Magazine Monitor, despite a soft market. Meanwhile, circulation surged 11.5 percent to 1.2 million in the first six months of this year versus the year-earlier period, according to the Audit Bureau of Circulations.
A G+J representative could not be reached for comment. Pinkwater and Newman were not available.
