Rives Carlberg last week added PerformanceRetail to its roster, following a review pitting it against several undisclosed Texas agencies.

The client, a spinoff of Accenture (formerly Andersen Consulting), develops Internet-based applications specific to the convenience store industry. A Web interface at both cash registers and back-office computers enables users to track store inventory, measure profitability and perform other tasks in real time. Other founders of the Houston-based company include retail software maker Retek, and convenience store owners Tosco and Amerada Hess Corp.

The client, which previously used a variety of resources to handle marketing tasks, was looking to consolidate with the selection of an agency, sources said.

Beginning in March, Houston-based Rives Carlberg will launch a print campaign in convenience store and petroleum trade publications.
