General Motors’ OnStar unit has promoted ad manager Andy Young to director of marketing communications, replacing Chris Hamer, who moved to GM’s Cadillac division Aug. 1. The unit will break the first of five TV spots Sept. 21 on Fox’s Emmy Awards. The ads, from Interpublic Group’s Campbell-Ewald in Warren, Mich., use true stories to demonstrate the benefits of OnStar’s safety and security services. GM spent $12 million on OnStar ads in 2002, according to TNS Media Intelligence/CMR.
