Omnicom Names Dumont Asia-Pacific President

NEW YORK Omnicom Group said it has appointed Serge Dumont svp, president of its Asia-Pacific region, a new position, effective immediately.

He reports to chairman, CEO of Omnicom Asia-Pacific Michael Birkin, who said in a statement, "We continue to grow our brands to meet the increasing needs of our clients in this vital region. Serge has a brilliant reputation, a proven track record and extensive experience in Asia. We see his appointment as a critical step in driving many of our strategic initiatives. We are delighted to welcome Serge aboard."

Dumont will focus on business in greater China, the company said.

A French national, Dumont has been a consultant for more than 20 years in mainland China to various Fortune 500 companies, governments doing business there (particularly the French) and entities such as the World Health Organization and the Beijing Municipal Government. He also was a major organizer of China's first major charity event for HIV/AIDS awareness and established a scholarship for business professionals at Tsinghua University.

"I am delighted to be joining Omnicom, the undisputed world-leading communications holding group, at this time of major expansion in Asia-Pacific," Dumont said in a statement. "I am greatly looking forward to working with the leadership of the group and its agencies to ensure that we continue to anticipate and meet our clients' needs in this fast-growing part of the world."

Dumont is a co-author of the 2003 book, Brand Warriors of China.

Omnicom is the parent company of advertising agencies such as BBDO, DDB and TBWA and media shops OMD and PHD. Its marketing services companies include Rapp Collins, Proximity, Targetbase and Interbrand. Bank of America, Visa, PepsiCo, Apple Computer and DaimlerChrysler are among its 5,000 clients.
