NEW YORK OMD USA has hired Ray Warren, the former president and CEO of Raycom Sports, as managing director.
Warren, 47, assumes all responsibilities previously held by Dan Rank, who resigned in November 2002 to join the Universal Television Group in Chicago.
As managing director of OMD USA, he will oversee all of OMD's broadcast capabilities as well as its sports marketing and entertainment units. He will report directly to Page Thompson, CEO of OMD North America, and will serve as a member of OMD's North America operating council. His appointment is effective Jan. 20.
Warren began his career in media as a network radio buyer in 1976 at Ted Bates Advertising in New York, and after leaving there in 1977, worked as an ad buyer at BBDO and, subsequently, Benton & Bowles Advertising. He left Benton & Bowles in 1981 to join ABC Sports Sales as an account executive. In 1984, he was named account executive for ABC Prime Time Sales, and in 1986, became vp/director of ABC News Sales.
He resigned from ABC in 1988 as vp of Eastern Sales to join Raycom Sports as evp for the sales & marketing division. Warren was named chief operating officer in 1994, and in 1998 became president and CEO, a position he held until November 2002.
