Gordon Jump, who has played Maytag repairman “Ol’ Lonely” for 14 years, is retiring from the role. Character actor Hardy Rawls will replace Jump, 71, in a 2004 campaign by Maytag’s longtime agency, Leo Burnett in Chicago. Rawls will be the third man to play the repairman, who is lonely because Maytag customers rarely call for help. Jesse White was the first repairman, from 1967-88.
