Ogilvy Redefines Exec Roles

NEW YORK Ogilvy & Mather, a week after losing New York office co-president Andy Berndt to Google, has redefined the roles of its North American and New York leaders.

North American co-CEO Carla Hendra will now run Ogilvy New York along with Chris Wall. Wall sheds his previous title of co-chief creative officer of the office to become vice chairman, creative and Hendra adds the title of chairman of Ogilvy New York. Wall will oversee creative efforts in advertising, direct and interactive marketing and Hendra retains her North American duties.

In addition, remaining office president Michelle Bottomley becomes chief operating officer of New York. As such, she'll manage day-to-day operations across all disciplines.

Finally, Ogilvy New York's other co-COOs, David Apicella and Jan Leth, become vice chairman, creative of North America and vice chairman, global digital creative, respectively. In his new role, Leth will work closely with worldwide vice chairman Steve Hayden and North American chief digital officer Jean-Philippe Maheu.

The moves, which take effect immediately, reflect a shift away from joint titles and toward a more specific delineation of roles. The WPP Group agency, which has been in a new business slump of late, said the changes would "accelerate integration across disciplines and sharpen focus on the creative process."

In a statement, North American co-CEO Bill Gray said: "We are fortunate to have a team of proven executives who think and act in a media agnostic way. With this team in place, we have more opportunities to influence brand experience, to bring new and different creative ideas and strategies to our clients and to help their businesses succeed as never before."

Berndt resigned to become managing director of Google Creative Lab in New York. He's expected to start in the next few months
