LOS ANGELES WPP Group’s Ogilvy & Mather has laid off eight employees at its Culver City, Calif., operation as it shifts a portion of Motorola’s global marketing account to its New York office, an agency representative confirmed. The cuts affect 6 percent of the location’s roughly 130 employees.

The representative declined to elaborate on the reason for the shift or the positions affected. A representative for Motorola in Schaumburg, Ill., referred calls to the agency.

Ogilvy moved creative chores on the Motorola account from New York to Culver City in May 2002, to coincide with the arrival of chief creative officer Dan Burrier, who was previously with the agency in New York.
