NEW YORK New York Times Digital, which includes NYTimes.com and Boston.com, yesterday reported that third-quarter revenue rose nearly 20 percent to $21.8 million from $18.2 million in the same period a year earlier.

Operating profit more than doubled to a record $5.7 million from the $2.8 million in the year-ago quarter. Q3 revenue was flat with Q2’s $21.6 million, while operating profit was up 33 percent from $4.3 million in the second quarter.

The New York-based online unit of The New York Times Company attributed the boost to higher advertising revenue resulting from increased volume.
