Adweek Acquires Infomercial Sourcebook
NEW YORK---Adweek Magazines, the unit of BPI Communications that publishes Adweek, has acquired the Infomercial Marketing Sourcebook from Steve Dworman's Infomercial Marketing Report. The Sourcebook contains a directory of production companies, producers and other suppliers to the infomercial production market. Steve Dworman will continue as managing director of the annual publication and oversee content, design and sales.
New Holiday Inn Spot From Fallon McElligott
CHICAGO--Holiday Inn Worldwide broke a second spot from Fallon McElligott in Minneapolis last week. The agency's first spot--which featured a transsexual--was pulled off the air following a Super Bowl debut. 'Change the Room' is less controversial. The new spot focuses on a team of maids arriving to 'change a room' after a guest checks out. They quickly begin demolishing the room with sledge hammers and chain saws. The guest returns moments later to retrieve a forgotten toothbrush and finds the room completely remodeled.
Y&R Hires Pair for AT&T Account
NEW YORK--Young & Rubicam has hired two new executives for creative and account duties on its AT&T business. Ken Segall, a former creative director at Ogilvy & Mather, was hired as executive vice president, executive creative director. Segall replaces Gordon Bowen, who resigned recently to spend more time with his family in Utah. Kathryn Milano, a former director of global advertising at Federal Express, was hired as senior vice president, account managing director for AT&T. She replaces June Blocklin, who was promoted to director of new business in March.
The Lord Group Wins Personal Care Business
NEW YORK--Montvale, N.J.-based Personal Care Group has consolidated the creative and media duties on its estimated $5 million account at The Lord Group here. PCG's former agencies were Jordan, McGrath Case & Taylor and Warwick Baker O'Neill, both in New York. PCG markets such products as Diaparene, Wet Ones and Mr. Bubble.
Burkhardt & Hillman Gets Lynn Chase
NEW YORK--Burkhardt & Hillman here has been awarded the advertising account of Lynn Chase Designs, the Ridgefield, Conn., dinnerware and accessories brand from artist Lynn Chase. The account, which bills several million dollars, will be handled in conjunction with Corbin & Associates, New York.
National Car Appoints Advertising Chief
CHICAGO--Bob Dimmick has joined National Car Rental System as corporate vice president of advertising and marketing after 10 years with Thrifty, where he was vice president of marketing, advertising and sales. Dimmick replaces Brad Partridge, who left. The company has appointed no agency of record after parting with Carmichael Lynch, Minneapolis, earlier this year.
Sybase Names Semifinalists in Creative Review
BOSTON--Sybase in Emeryville, Calif., has named six semifinalists for the creative portion of its $12-15 million account: Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos; Ingalls, Quinn & Johnson; and Cohn Godley Norwood, all in Boston; Allen & Gerritsen of Watertown, Mass.; FGI of Chapel Hill, N.C.; and FCB Technology Group in San Francisco. The client parted ways with incumbent Euro RSCG Dahlin Smith White in Salt Lake City. Freeman Associates in Wellesley, Mass., retains the media buying and planning assignment.
Pentax Sets Its Sights on 4 Finalists
DALLAS--Four agencies were selected as finalists for the estimated $7 million Pentax Cameras account that recently left Minneapolis shop Carmichael Lynch. Presentations are set for the week of May 12, according to the Englewood, Colo.-based client. Contenders include Rives Carlberg in Houston; Borders, Perrin & Norrander in Portland, Ore.; and Thomas & Perkins and Karsh & Hagen Communications, both in Denver.
CMM Breaks Campaign for Daily News
NEW YORK--Christy MacDougall Mitchell here has broken a new campaign for the New York Daily News, starting with teasers last week. The campaign publicizes the paper's new printing process with the promise, 'No more shmutz!' Co-publisher Fred Drasner will appear in TV ads breaking this week.
BBDO, Cliff Freeman Rack Up Addys
NEW YORK--BBDO and Cliff Freeman and Partners garnered the most wins at this year's 'Best of New York' American Advertising Awards, sponsored by Advertising Women of New York. BBDO won Best of Show-Broadcast for its HBO spot, 'Chimps.' Cliff Freeman and Partners won Best of Show-Print for its Sauza Tequila work. The two shops took home seven awards each. DeVito/Verdi won five awards.
