Doner Gets Animated for Blockbuster DETROIT--W.B. Doner & Co. in Southfield, Mich., this week breaks its first full campaign for Blockbuster since succeeding Young & Rubicam, New York, as lead agency on the video retailer's $100 million-plus account. A 30-second TV spot and accompanying print ad feature Santa Claus rendered in Japanese-style animation. The "Go home happy" tag appears only in the print work. Volvo Trucks Returns to Super Bowl CHICAGO--Volvo Trucks North America will air a 30-second spot during the Super Bowl on Fox as part of its "Best drive in the game" promotion targeting truckers. First prize is a fully equipped Volvo rig. The Greensboro, N.C., company said its first Super Bowl buy this year had significantly boosted awareness. Carmichael Lynch, Minneapolis, is the agency. Feds Tap Tobacco Spots From Mass., Ariz. BOSTON--The U.S. Office of National Drug Control Policy will break seven youth-oriented anti-smoking ads from Arnold Communications on Dec. 15. Two spots created by Riester-Robb for Arizona's tobacco control program will also air. The nine spots were culled from a list of 16 selected by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and will be run as PSAs in media that would be worth $16 million. New PaineWebber Work Breaks NEW YORK--Saatchi & Saatchi's first new campaign for PaineWebber in nearly two years features regular folks and an old tagline: "Thank you PaineWebber." Six print ads and two TV spots are planned. The tag was last used in 1990. Previous TV ads for PaineWebber used the tag, "Invest with more intelligence." The client, which spent a little more than $3.5 million on advertising through August this year, may spend as much as $20 million next year. GM Taps Berlin for Cadillac SUV Spot NEW YORK--General Motors has asked Berlin Cameron & Partners to create the introductory TV spot for Cadillac's luxury sport utility vehicle. The campaign is expected in early March. Steve Rosenblum, Cadillac advertising director, said D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles, Los Angeles, will continue to serve as the client's agency and will work in tandem with Berlin on the SUV campaign. Mirage Creative Account to GSD&M DALLAS--Mirage Resorts, Las Vegas, cut short an agency search expected to last six more weeks and hired GSD&M of Austin, Texas, to handle the creative portion of its $30 million account. Other shops contacted in the month-old review, according to a client official, included The Richards Group in Dallas; TBWA/Chiat/Day in Playa del Rey, Calif.; and Deutsch in New York. Media buying remains at Western International Media in Los Angeles. Fallon Resigns Jim Beam CHICAGO--Fallon McElligott, Minneapolis, resigned Jim Beam Brands' $8 million advertising account, ending a 10-year relationship. Agency chairman Pat Fallon said in a statement that the client and the shop arrived at irreconcilable strategic differences. Officials at the Deerfield, Ill.-based client could not be reached for comment on plans to name a successor. Fallon's most recent work for the client's flagship Jim Beam bourbon encourages men to "Get in touch with your masculine side." Newswire Roundup Saatchi & Saatchi has been awarded the estimated $120 million launch of Toyota's Yaris in Europe. Saatchi will handle creative and media duties on the launch, scheduled to begin in April Grey Advertising's MediaCom Worldwide has agreed in principle to acquire The Media Business Group in London for $46 million in cash. The deal, expected to close by year's end, will create an entity with total billings of about $850 million operating under the name MediaCom/TMBG At TBWA Worldwide, New York: Jonathan Ramsden, 34, becomes chief financial officer; Denis Streiff, 35, becomes chief financial officer, international; and Jan Sneed, 47, becomes senior vice president corporate communications worldwide Lowe & Partners/SMS, San Francisco, has hired Vince Engel as its first executive vice president and creative director.
