The resignation of Lisa Berman after 12 years at Hill,Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos marks the close of a chapter at the Boston agency and the start of another at Donovan Group, where she will become media director.

For the 60-person Donovan Group—which is planning a move from Northborough, Mass., to larger space in Watertown, Mass., in the near future—Berman’s hire signifies the agency’s determination to establish itself as something more than a marginal player.

For Interpublic Group shop Hill, Holliday, Berman’s leaving triggers a search for a successor to oversee a 70-person department charged with media responsibilities for blue-chip advertisers, including Dunkin’ Donuts, Fidelity Investments and FleetBoston.

“We totally respect her decision,” said Hill, Holliday co-president June Blocklin, who declined to comment on the process of naming a successor.
