SAN FRANCISCO — A growing number of Internet users are on relying on direct navigation and bookmarks to locate Web sites, indicating that branding is effective online, claimed Geoff Johnston, vp of product marketing at StatMarket.

San Diego, Calif.-based StatMarket, a division of WebSideStory, Inc., is a Web site design and Web software development optimization service that provides data on global Internet user trends.

Most recently, the company found that nearly 52 percent of Internet users, as compared to approximately 46 percent last year, arrived at sites by direct navigation and bookmarks rather than surfing via search engines or links.
