NEW YORK Online video sales veteran Tom Bosco has been named vp and head of sales at MySpaceTV, the social networking hub's budding video-centric channel.
Bosco, who co-chaired the Interactive Advertising Bureau's broadband committee from 2004 through last year, has held top sales positions at both Microsoft and AOL as both companies built up their video offerings over the last few years.
He joins MySpaceTV following its recent string of deals to distribute licensed video content from big name companies such as Reuters and The New York Times to upstarts like Ripe TV and The Daily Reel. MySpaceTV, currently in beta, is aiming to chase down YouTube as the Web's top video destination.
That chase is where MySpace executives hope Bosco's experience will pay off. "Tom's proven track record of driving revenue around online video products gives MySpaceTV an incredible advantage in the marketplace going forward," said Michael Barrett, chief revenue officer of Fox Interactive Media. "Video is a huge focus for us from a monetization perspective with virtually limitless opportunities on MySpace. Tom's experience adds to our team one of the industry's leading innovators."
