The Dow Jones industrial average dropped 108 points for the week, down 1.2 percent, to close at 10,117. The Nasdaq slipped 1 point to 1,918. The period was capped by a 124-point Dow downturn on Friday, due to a robust April jobs picture that spurred fears of rising interest rates. Also on Friday, IPG was among a handful of companies reporting earnings, saying its first-quarter loss almost doubled to nearly $17 million, or 5 cents a share, compared with a loss of $8.6 million, or 2 cents a share, in the same period a year ago. For the week, the stocks of the three major ad holding companies dipped slightly. On the Big Board, IPG's stock price dipped 2 percent to $15.35; Omnicom shares rose 1.7 percent to close at $80.90. WPP, trading as American Depository Receipts on the Nasdaq, fell 1.6 percent to $48.50.
