The Dow Jones industrial average managed to post solid gains Friday, ending the week up 2.9 percent and closing at 10,110. Much of the upward movement came as oil prices retreated on positive news from Iraq. September orders for crude oil had threatened to hit the $50 mark earlier in Friday trading, but dropped to less than $48 per barrel as concerns about Iraqi oil-supply problems were calmed. In other news, Google, whose initial public offering took place Thursday, saw gains in its first two days of trading.
