NEW YORK Sequels such as The Matrix Reloaded and X2: X-Men United as well as other pre-Memorial Day movie fare drove surfers to the Web at the beginning of the month to read reviews, watch trailers and purchase tickets.

Traffic to movie-ticketing site Fandango.com rose 134 percent to 540,000 the week ending May 4, up from 231,000 surfers the week before, according to Internet audience measurement firm Nielsen/NetRatings. Meanwhile, traffic to competitor Movietickets.com grew 93 percent to 388,000 from 201,000 in the week-prior period.
