FLORIDA
St. John & Partners in Jacksonville signed John Umlauf as creative group head. Arriving from crosstown shop The William Cook Agency, where he served as senior art director, Umlauf has also had stints at W.B. Doner in Southfield, Mich., and Chicago’s Leo Burnett. He will lead the creative team working on the agency’s two regional Ford dealer group advertising accounts.
Lea Sloan was appointed senior vice president of marketing and public relations at Paxson Communications in West Palm Beach. Previously, Sloan was partner and executive vice president of Gordon Sloan Diaz-Balart in Miami.
Green Advertising in Boca Raton named Lisa Scontras public relations manager. Scontras had been communications director for the Historic Hawaii Foundation in Honolulu.
Deborah Brody signed with The Jeffrey Group, Miami, as account executive. Brody previously worked at Everett Clay Associates in Miami.
Nazca Saatchi & Saatchi in Miami, the Latin American network of agencies for Saatchi & Saatchi Worldwide, recruited Geesji Viguiƒ to establish a pan-regional media department for Latin America. Viguiƒ came to Nazca S&S from Young & Rubicam, Miami, where she was regional media director.
GEORGIA
Fitzgerald & Co., Atlanta, hired senior art director Cathy Carlisi, who joined the agency from Tausche Martin Lonsdorf, also Atlanta. Carlisi’s resume includes Carmichael Lynch and Fallon McElligott, both Minneapolis. She will work as both an art director and writer at Fitzgerald.
Melissa Devereaux was designated interactive designer and producer at Magick Lantern in Atlanta. Devereaux joined Magick after freelancing as an interactive designer and producer for clients such as IBM and AT&T.
Aydlotte & Cartwright in Atlanta installed Kathryn Robbins as an assistant account executive in its healthcare marketing division. Robbins is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
MediaVehicles in Marietta hired Stuart Layton as vice president of sales in the Southeast. Layton was formerly with Formetco, a computer printing company located in Norcross.
John Ballantine arrived at Atlanta’s Broadus & Associates as art director. Ballantine had been employed by T.G. Madison in Atlanta.
MarketPro, an Atlanta company specializing in contract placement and recruitment of marketing professionals, added David Clements as account manager.
The Newsletter Factory and its subsidiary, Publication Studio, hired Jerry Masters as art director for both of the Atlanta operations.
MARYLAND
Katie Brazel stepped into the newly created post of senior public relations manager at Wray Ward Laseter in Charlotte. Brazel’s 21 years of public relations experience includes a senior account executive position at Brodeur & Partners in Boston and a managing editor post at Larkin Publications in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
NORTH CAROLINA
Bill Coyne, chief executive officer of Coyne Beahm in Greensboro, received a national communications award from the Association of Retarded Citizens for an advertising poster entitled “Bridges.” The poster features an illustrated close-up of Coyne’s son–who was born with Down syndrome–looking confidently toward the future.
SOUTH CAROLINA
Chernoff/Silver tapped Jeff Tobin as vice president and creative director. Tobin joined the shop from DSW Advertising in Salt Lake City, where he oversaw the creative portion of Web site development and online advertising for clients such as Intel and Minolta. He has also worked as senior copywriter at Foote, Cone & Belding and as copy supervisor and group head at Lord, Dentsu & Partners, both in Los Angeles.
TENNESSEE
Diana Wright was welcomed by Chandler, Ehrlich & Co. in Memphis as media buyer. A 25-year veteran of the media industry, Wright has experience with food and beverage, hospitality, financial services and publishing accounts, among others.
VIRGINIA
Ken Lindenau became vice president of business development and “marketing synergist” for CadmusCom in Richmond. Lindenau will oversee the newly formed marketing synergy team to develop integrated marketing plans for clients. Previously, Lindenau was senior vice president at Arocom Marketing Group in Cleveland, where he oversaw the agency’s direct response unit and worked on such brands as Owens Corning and Mr. Coffee.
