A&E Television Networks has named Melinda McLaughlin vice president, research, responsible for the overall direction of the company's research department as well as such brand extensions as Biography magazine.
Prior to joining the New York company, she was executive vice president, director of media strategy at Jordan McGrath Case & Partners Euro RSCG in New York.
Emmerling Post Advertising in New York has hired Ken Paster as senior vice president, account director, heading up the TD Waterhouse account. Most recently, he was managing director at Seiden Group, New York. In addition, the agency has named Ed Burgoyne director of production and new media; he was formerly manager of creative services at Lois/EJL New York.
Designworks Advertising has hired four new staffers. Mark Proud was named an art director. Before arriving at the Syracuse shop, Proud was group creative director at Trainor Associates. Lisa Cherchio was appointed production manager; she previously worked as a production manager at Syracuse Litho. Steve Levine has joined the shop as a senior account executive; he was most recently an account executive at the MRA Group. Jackie Rosenthal has been hired as an account coordinator; prior to joining the agency, she was a freelance fashion stylist for advertising and music-industry clients in New York.
GQ magazine has promoted Norman Miller to advertising director. Most recently, he was advertising manager at the New York-based magazine, a division of Condƒ Nast Publications.
JSM, a commercial-music house in New York, has hired composer Billy Alessi. Alessi, along with his twin brother, Bobby Alessi, who has been composing for JSM for 12 years, will head the company's new commercial songwriting division, which will be known as Alessi. Most recently,
Billy Alessi has been composing and arranging music for Crushing Music, New York.

DVC in Morristown has hired eight new staffers. Janet McVicar was named account supervisor, responsible for managing promotional marketing programs for Roche Pharmaceuticals' Xenical
brand; she was previously an account supervisor at Young & Rubicam in New York. Meredith Bailin has arrived as group assistant; she was most recently sales and marketing assistant at Pinnacle
Communities in Millburn. Karen Von Eisenburg was named account supervisor, responsible for managing promotional marketing programs for Labatt USA; she was formerly promotions manager at the LifeSavers Co., a division of Nabisco, in Parsippany. John Shively was named senior art director at DVC's regional office in Minneapolis; he was most recently an art director at Edge Advertising in Plymouth, Minn. Molly Roess was appointed strategy and public relations coordinator; she had formerly worked in the concierge department at Hotel Monaco in Seattle. Lupe De Los Santos was named account supervisor, responsible for managing promotional
marketing programs for Labatt USA's Mexican beer brands; before joining the shop, he had served as associate regional manager at Team Enterprises. Stephanie Panyko was hired as desktop publisher; she formerly worked at prepress/desktop publisher at Hammer Press, Parsippany. Kellie Ann Ritter was also hired as desktop publisher; she was formerly senior Mac artist at Fairview Advertising in Oakland.
Gianettino & Meredith has named Maria Gaito production supervisor on the ShopRite account. Prior to joining the Short Hills shop, Gaito was the production manager at MBA Graphics in Edison. The agency has also hired Nakia Adams as traffic manager on the ShopRite account; Adams was formerly a corrections officer in Hudson County.
BergerBrown Communications in South Orange has named Amy Martin account executive for a number of BergerBrown clients in the financial industry. Previously, Martin worked as an account executive at a New York public relations company.
