Smolkin works on the Anthem Blue Cross/ Blue Shield of Connecticut, Saint Francis Care, New England Bank and Arrow Pharmacy and Nutrition Centers accounts. Anson Smith has been appointed manager of client services for Carmody & Torrance in Waterbury. Smith was most recently head of ACS-Creative in Wallingford and has held positions at Aetna Life & Casualty and John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance. Martino & Binzer, Avon, has hired Laurie Noyes as media director and Melanie McMillan as director of public relations. Noyes most recently worked at O'Neal & Prelle, Hartford. McMillan served as a public relations account supervisor at Mintz & Hoke, Avon. MASSACHUSETTS Sharon Merrill Associates in Boston has tapped Andrea Malinsky, Robert Pease and Paul Sagan as account executives and Erica Smith as an account specialist. Malinsky joined the company from Revlon Consumer Products Corp., where she developed international corporate and marketing communications programs. Pease most recently served as executive director of the Princeton-in-Asia program. Sagan was previously an assistant vice president of an international investor relations consultancy and a corporate communications manager with Thermo Electron Corp. Smith was a corporate analyst with Lehman Brothers, where she worked on high-yield and equity security offerings in the energy, hotel, retail and telecommunications industries. Carat Freeman in Newton has announced the following promotions: Christine Pruski-Pamir, from senior media planner to media director; Erin Kearn, from assistant media planner to media planner, online specialist; Dennis Santos and Andrea Merva, from assistant media planners to media planners; and Kate Evelyn, Kit Laurie and Dana Roberts, from media coordinators to assistant media planners. Doherty Communications in Chelmsford has named Stacy Mosca account manager, Bill Wilcox creative director and Tracy Dow and Laura Thibeault designers. Mosca joined the agency from Gearon Hoffman, where she worked on the Tufts HealthPlan, AllEnergy and Ecco Shoes accounts. She was most recently with The Designory in Long Beach, Calif. Kirk Davis has been hired as senior vice president of human resources at Community Newspaper Co. in Needham. Davis previously was vice president of organizational development and chief diversity officer at The Hartford Courant, where he spent the past 11 years. Pamet River Partners in Boston has promoted Marian Dunshee to executive vice president, operations and outreach. Dunshee most recently served as executive vice president, business planning and has worked on accounts such as MCI and Hachette-Filipacchi Media. International Data Group in Boston has named Alys Creighton director of corporate communications. Creighton most recently was a vice president with Miller/Shandwick Technologies, working with clients such as Compaq Computer Corp. and The Wall Street Journal Interactive Edition. The J.M. Perrone Co. in Weymouth has promoted James Viola to vice president. Viola joined the company in January as a sales representative. Eliassen Group has appointed Gregory Hamilton director of marketing, a newly created role at the Wakefield agency. Hamilton, most recently involved in Powersoft Corp.'s integration into Sybase, will position Eliassen Group and MasterWorks, the company's project solutions division. The Boston Beer Co. has promoted Roberta Merkel to vice president of brand development. Merkel will oversee the development of all marketing communications for Samuel Adams and will work with the brand managers of Oregon Ale & Beer Co. and HardCore Cider Co., two divisions of the Boston company. Merkel was previously director of brand development. NEW HAMPSHIRE David Andrews has been appointed editor-in-chief of ID Systems magazine in Peterborough.
