CONNECTICUTNorth Castle Partners, Stamford, promoted Steve Mark and Steve Garbett each to executive creative director. Both were made agency partners in 1999 and have produced work for Slim Jim, Planters and Nabisco.

MAINEVia, Portland, hired Lonny Matsuda as director of design. He was formerly creative producer for L.L. Bean's Web site, and also spent eight years as lead designer at Patagonia. In addition, the firm appointed Cindi Pochatek associate design director. She was a senior designer in the Ohio office of international design consultancy Fitch, working with clients such as Bank One, Hush Puppies and Intelysis. Via also hired Robert Cram and Lori Dombek as Web developers for the technology team; former Moss Warner project manager Sarah Leonard as media traffic coordinator; Jason Wright as an assistant communications planner; Dawn Demers as human resources coordinator; Donna Michaud as an executive assistant; and Nigel Wolfe as staff accountant. Several of the agency's staffers have also moved into new roles, including Cathy Caron as senior Web developer; Maria Corkery as corporate communications writer; Ron Clayton as senior writer; Scott Crossman as a software developer; Angela Pierce as a writer; and Melissa Terrano as technology assistant.

Burgess Advertising & Associates, Portland, hired Wendy Wren as its production manager. She previously worked for three years as a print buyer at Via.

Broadcast design studio Hatmaker, Watertown, appointed Glenn Kesner studio head. He was previously vice president, creative director at Turner Classic Movies.

Ocean Spray, Lakeville-Middleboro, hired Karl Johnson, formerly vice president and management director of Foote Cone & Belding in Chicago, as vice president of the company's new product division. Johnson reports to president and COO Randy Papadellis, the former Welch's marketing chief who joined Ocean Spray in July. At FC&B, Johnson was responsible for more than $100 million in consumer accounts, including brands such as Gatorade/Quaker Oats, Sara Lee and Bristol-Myers Squibb.

Greenberg Seronick O'Leary & Partners, Boston, added Paula Yphantes as vice president/account supervisor, working on The Dial Corp. account. She was previously an account supervisor at Digitas, Boston. The agency also hired Clare Conroy as an assistant account executive working on the Shaw's Supermarkets account. Conroy previously worked at J. Walter Thompson.

Greco Ethridge Group, Boston, named Dave Kuell vice president, brand reality. He was formerly general manager for Munaco in South Carolina.

Arnold Worldwide, Boston, promoted Nicole Gorgas of Arnold Brand Promotions to management supervisor; Wendy Harland of Arnold Brand Promotions to account supervisor; Sarah Heard to senior planner of Arnold's Consumer Insight Group; Michelle Fishberg to assistant account planner of Arnold's Consumer Insight Group; Helen Cha to media supervisor on Universal Music and JetBlue; and Alison Tierney to media planner. The agency also hired Jill Beasley as business manager; Leigh Davidson, Justin Happel, Rachel Palmes and Courtney Smith as account coordinators; Scott Dubrow as account supervisor; Heather Guerriero as assistant account executive; Lindsey Hogan as a marketing coordinator in the new business department; Strick Walker as an account executive; Jane Kim as a media planner for Volkswagen of America; Erin Powers as a media planner for Monster.com; and Andrea Millet as an interactive media planner.

Jennifer Holmes joined Gearon Hoffman as a senior account executive, working on the Tufts Health Plan and Capital Crossing Bank accounts. The agency also hired Alison Hunt as an assistant account executive.

Orsatti & Partners, Boston, named Andrea Paroskie an art buyer and traffic manager. She was previously a traffic manager at Wickersham Hunt Schwantner, now Arnold Worldwide. The agency also hired Benjamin Steinsieck as controller and Cherry Ann Goodridge as office manager.

Dickinson Direct, Braintree, promoted Brian Plunkett to director of information technology and Keri LeClair to manager of list services.

Advertising Associates International, Weston, hired Jim Stafford as art director and Shannon Campbell as associate media manager. Stafford previously operated his own design studio in Rhode Island, while Campbell was a media planner/buyer at Alan Hackel Organization.
