ATLANTA–Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits’ Chicago franchise group has tapped Hambright, Calcagno & Downing as agency of record for its $2 million-plus account. The Virginia Beach, Va., shop defeated incumbent Bozell in Chicago for the advertising business.





One of Popeyes’ largest markets, the Chicago franchise system operates 75 restaurants. Hambright, Calcagno & Downing (HC&D) handles other Popeyes markets, including the Washington, D.C., metro area, New York, Boston and Philadelphia. The agency now represents about 40 percent of Popeyes total systems sales in the U.S.





‘It was kind of a coup more than a win,’ said Jim Hambright, HC&D president, adding the account never went out to bid.





‘HC&D has an established track record of providing strong, creative and cost-efficient service for Popeyes and its franchise partners, (making it) a natural choice to support the Chicago market,’ said Popeyes regional marketing manager Cathy Schlecht in a statement.
