Starbucks Coffee Co. has hired Montgomery Stire here to promote its planned entry into the New Orleans market.
Montgomery topped local bidders Fitzgerald Advertising, Brian Hum-phries, Keating Magee and Wohl & Co. for the account, which includes ad and public relations chores.
Starbucks, which operates 1,600 retail units nationwide, reportedly plans to open about a half-dozen sites here in the next year.
Client regional marketing director Lisa Denney declined to confirm the number of planned units or the exact size of the account. Starbucks, which operates inside Barnes & Noble and the Sheraton Hotel here, does not yet have freestanding shops.
Denney said no other new market entries are planned for 1998.
