BOSTON Mintz & Hoke has been selected to create advertising and public relations efforts for the Connecticut Sun of the Women's National Basketball Association.
The team, owned by the Mohegan Tribal Authority, had previously played in Orlando, Fla., and will open its first season at the 10,000-seat Moghean Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., on May 24.
Avon, Conn.-based independent Mintz & Hoke already handles public relations for the Mohegan Sun casino and was chosen to promote the women's professional hoops team without a review. The budget is estimated at $500,000-1 million.
An integrated campaign will begin breaking immediately, mainly targeting women 35 and older in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Print, radio, outdoor, direct and e-mail executions will all be in the media mix. The shop will also craft a recruitment effort for team management positions.
