Raymond Otis Mithun, co-founder of Minneapolis agency Campbell Mithun Esty, died last week of natural causes. He was 89.
Mithun, who started his advertising career as a copywriter for BBDO Advertising in Minneapolis, founded his own agency in 1933 when he was just 23, along with Ralph Campbell.
The agency, initially called Campbell Mithun Inc., had six employees and three clients: Andersen Corp.; Land O’ Lakes; and Northwestern National Bank. Sixty-five years later, CME remains the agency of record for Andersen and Land O’ Lakes.
Mithun was named president of the agency in 1943.
