NEW YORK -- Moviegoers flocked to film Web sites during the Fourth of July holiday to check out just-released, mid-summer blockbusters, like "Men in Black II."
According to the latest report from Nielsen/NetRatings, traffic to Fandango.com boomed 86 percent the week ending July 7. The movie site garnered 381,000 visitors that week, compared to 205,000 the week before.
Movietickets.com attracted 353,000 visitors as traffic to the site increased 38 percent, and Moviefone.com recorded nearly 1.2 million visitors.
"The success of movie-ticketing sites is based on a simple formula---provide consumers with an easier and more convenient way to find out about the latest movies and purchase tickets online," said Kim Pillion, Internet analyst at NetRatings, a subsidiary of Adweek parent VNU.
