ATLANTA The Arthritis Foundation has assigned its estimated $3-5 million account to Merkle Direct Marketing following a review, the agency said.

MDM in Landham, Md., was one of more than 50 agencies originally contacted by the client. Finalists included Grizzard in Atlanta; Hunsinger & Jeffers in Richmond, Va.; L.H. Robbins in Boston and incumbent Epsilon in Burlington, Mass.

The shop is charged with helping the nonprofit organization increase its membership and donor contributions.

“Our approach was an approach to understanding true motivations and behaviors of donors,” said David Williams, MDM president and chief executive officer.
