MediaSolutions' Growth Leads to New Hires

ATLANTA Independent media planning and buying firm MediaSolutions has reported $48 million in billings for 2002, an increase of 9 percent over 2001.

Agency president and founder Pat Sibley said her Atlanta shop's growth was based on an increase in spending among existing clients Friedman's Jewelers, Kimberly Clark and Coldwell Banker/The Condo Store, all in Atlanta. Friedman's Los Angeles affiliate, Crescent Jewelers, also increased media expenditures.

MediaSolutions planned media for Georgia Republican Senator Saxby Chambliss' upset victory over Democratic incumbent Senator Max Cleland. New business wins include Mrs. Smith's Bakeries.

As a result, Sibley has named Charles "Bubba" Cooper vice president and director of account services. Cooper had been working with the shop as a consultant, but Sibley said his work in developing competitive spending reviews and an efficiency model for Friedman's and CiCi's Pizza encouraged her to create a new position for him.

"We've tried using account people, but most of them don't move as fast as we do," Sibley said. "We start working while we're still on the phone; most account people take two days just to write up meeting notes."

Cooper's resume includes stints at Campbell-Ewald in Warren, Mich., and WestWayne, Ogilvy & Mather and BBDO, all in Atlanta.

Sibley has also hired Janice Myers-Turner as director of print, another new position at MediaSolutions. Myers-Turner has worked on the media accounts of J.C. Penney, Haverty Furniture and Wolf Camera in Atlanta.

"When Wolf was filing for Chapter 11, I knew I wanted whoever was buying for them," said Sibley. "It turned out to be Janice."
