DETROIT The Michigan Environmental Council urges residents to contact the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency about the problem of air pollution in a new radio campaign breaking today.

The campaign asks residents to contact the EPA by June 29, which is when the EPA will close its public comment period on the amount of mercury in power plant emissions, according to James Clift, policy director of the MEC.

The ads urge Michigan residents to ask the EPA to oppose proposed regulations that once in place would permit Edison and other power companies to delay installation of mercury controls required by the federal Clean Air Act, according to the MEC.
