CHICAGO MDC Partners has acquired a minority stake in 5-month-old startup mono.

The Minneapolis shop, which was formed in January 2004 by two former Fallon group creative directors and an ex-Carmichael Lynch account executive, has only six employees and one core client, Sesame Workshop.

"Their reel is incredible and they've worked with stellar brands like Porsche, Harley-Davidson and BMW," said Chuck Porter, chief strategist for MDC in a statement. "Mono exemplifies what we're looking for in an agency in terms of their approach to branding and their idea of what an agency culture should be."

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Toronto-based MDC also owns Minneapolis agency Colle + McVoy, as well as stakes in Crispin, Porter & Bogusky in Miami and Kirshenbaum Bond + Partners and Cliff Freeman and Partners, both in New York.
