CHICAGO McDonald’s Corp. reported that system-wide sales were up 8 percent in April compared with the same month last year.

Chairman and chief executive officer Jim Cantalupo said the chain’s new premium salads, which launched April 21, are drawing more traffic into the restaurants.

“These products are just one example of how we are attracting more customers through compelling, new menu offerings,” Cantalupo said in a statement.

The salads were backed by a national advertising campaign from Chicago agencies DDB and Leo Burnett.
