Seeking More Control, Founder Joins DVC
CHICAGO--Executives of Minneapolis promotions agency McCracken Brooks said the departure of founder and chairman Keith McCracken could lead to a name change but otherwise won't not affect operations.
"The credit for us being where we are as an agency doesn't rest on one person," said chief creative officer David Sandberg. However, Sandberg hinted that, with its two founders now gone, the shop may take a fresh moniker.
Citing a desire for more independence, McCracken, 54, announced last week he was resigning as chairman of the agency he founded 13 years ago. He will become executive vice president and general manager of Dugan Valva Contess, managing its 20-person Minneapolis office, whose primary client is Pillsbury.
"This gives me the ability to have more control of the direction of the agency and my own career," he said. He also cited DVC's integrated marketing capabilities and larger size. DVC, based in Morristown, N.J., is a $260 million agency; McCracken Brooks claims billings of $50 million.
McCracken Brooks was sold to Bozell, Jacobs, Kenyon & Eckhardt in 1996. With BJK&E's sale to True North last year, McCracken Brooks was folded into TN's Promotions Services Group, a move that motivated McCracken to step back from day-to-day operations.
