McCann-Erickson and sister shop MRM Gould here have both added senior executives who will focus on the $350 million Microsoft account.
Brian Monahan, 31, was named vp and interactive media director at Universal McCann Interactive. He will report to Rob Kabus, director of strategic planning at McCann San Fran cisco. Dane Hulquist, 32, will join MRM Gould, the direct marketing division of Mc Cann, as director of interactive strategy. He will report to Mary Kerford, vp and director of client services.
Monahan and Hulquist have worked together for several years, most recently at Inrhythm, an interactive agency they founded in 2000.
"We started doing some consulting work for McCann a few months ago," said Monahan. "When we looked around the West Coast to see who was doing good interactive work, McCann was the right choice."
"They have the budgets and the clients that will give us the opportunity to do good work," Hulquist added.
Monahan was one of the first employees of interactive shop Left Field, which opened in 1996. Hulquist joined in 1999. At In rhythm, they handled online media strategy for Amazon.com, Hotmail, Drugstore.com, Infoseek and Sun.
Hulquist started his career on the Mobil account at Grace & Rothschild, and then moved to Ogilvy & Mather to work on IBM. He started learning online advertising in 1997 while working on Microsoft at Wieden + Kennedy in Portland, Ore.
McCann-Erickson S.F., an Interpublic Group agency, also works with Applied Materials, AMD, Del Monte and Southcorp Wines. It has billings of roughly $450 million.
