McCann Hires COO on Microsoft

SAN FRANCISCO Interpublic Group’s McCann Worldgroup here has hired former OgilvyOne chief operating officer Joe Burton as COO on the global Microsoft account, the shop’s president said today.

Burton starts his new job May 1, said Matt Ross, McCann Worldgroup president and chief executive of the global Microsoft account.

The client spent $470 million in 2005 measured media, per TNS Media Intelligence. In its annual report, Microsoft said it spent $995 million on global advertising in 2005, but it was unclear if the entire amount was used to buy media.
