Given their reputation abroad as hypercapitalists, Americans are remarkably hostile to big business. Fresh evidence of this comes in the latest edition of an annual Gallup poll on public confidence in major institutions. Eight percent of respondents said they have “a great deal” of confidence in big business, and another 14 percent said they have “quite a lot” of confidence in it; 45 percent said they have “some,” 29 percent “very little” and 2 percent “none.”
