Last year’s E. coli episode proved that U.S.-grown food is perfectly capable of poisoning Americans. Even so, recent problems involving products from China are likely to have reinforced consumers’ inclination to buy grocery-store goods that are “Made in America.” A Gallup poll finds young adults less inclined than others to buy American (see the chart). The same survey asked how worried respondents are about the safety of foods in their local stores that come from various places.
