True optimists won’t let a little thing like nuclear war spoil their outlook. Nor are they discouraged by the likelihood of epidemics, terrorist attacks and collisions with stray asteroids. And the country is full of true optimists, according to a study commissioned by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press. When asked to characterize their outlook for themselves and their families over the next 50 years, 81 percent classified themselves as optimistic–including 40 percent who said they’re “very” much so.
