Marika to Mad Dogs

Mad Dogs & Englishmen's office here has won the $5 million account for a company that sells women's athletic clothing and apparel.

The shop's win of Marika of San Diego couldn't come at a better time, since Bay Area agencies now find themselves scrambling for each new piece of business.

The agency did not say if there was a review or if it was selected before a formal pitch. The work had been handled in-house.

"We are really excited to work with Mad Dogs. We think their San Francisco office has the perfect team," said Marika president Michael Levinson in a statement announcing the decision.

Mad Dogs, which is based in New York, will craft print, outdoor and sales material for Marika. The new work will launch in the third quarter.

Nick Cohen, chief creative officer and founder of Mad Dogs, said the agency is excited about its latest win—especially considering the current climate.

"Marika is an amazing brand that truly resonates with women," he said. "We are very much looking forward to developing creative that taps into the love women have for the brand."

Marika goods are sold in more than 4,000 locations nationwide, including stores such as Gart/Sportmart, Oshmans, The Sporting Authority, Lord & Taylor and Nordstrom's.

Mad Dogs was founded 10 years ago. The shop also works on accounts including AOL Moviefone, Starband, Razorfish, Edgix, Cana dian Club Whisky and Yoo-Hoo chocolate drink.
