Fabrizi Takes Top Spot at Pittsburgh Shop, Forms Brand Group
By Trevor Jensen
CHICAGO--Marc USA/Pittsburgh has established a brand consultancy under its new chief executive officer, Michele Fabrizi.
Fabrizi was named CEO of the agency, formerly Marc Advertising, last week. She had been the shop's president and chief operating officer since 1998. In that time, billings more than doubled to $240 million, led by wins last year of True Value's $50 million national branding account as well as local business from Mellon Financial Corp. and UPMC Health System.
Tony Bucci remains chairman and CEO of Marc USA, the holding company over a growing network of regional agencies that began with Marc Advertising.
Marc's new brand consultancy is called See Brand Consulting and is part of the growing agency trend of providing services beyond traditional advertising and marketing. Fabrizi said she began formulating the division a year ago. That led to the development of Marc Strategic Consulting, the precursor of See. In addition to work with existing Marc clients, the unit has accounts of its own from local companies Petrol Rem and WeatherWise.
"This is for clients that don't want or need standard advertising services," Fabrizi said. "See will look at a business problem, not a marketing problem."
See will be led by Jane Singer, a senior vice president and marketing strategist at Marc, which she joined two years ago. Other See management includes Michelle Sinciline, formerly an account manager with TBWA/Chiat/Day; Karen Kilp, a vice president and research director at Marc; and Don Falkinburg, who was research director for Highmark Blue Cross/Blue Shield.
"A brand is not just built by an advertising campaign," Singer said. "Brands have stepped out of the world of packaged goods. See will look at aspects of a business brand, including online sales contacts and distribution channels."
Fabrizi takes over as Marc's CEO 18 years after joining the shop as an account executive. She is credited with creating the PowerBranding strategic development process being spread across Marc's network. Marc has shops in Chicago, Indianapolis, New York, Dallas, Miami and Orlando, Fla. Each office has its own management, which reports to Bucci. K
