NEW YORK Incumbents McCann Erickson and Wunderman have retained Lufthansa's global advertising and direct marketing accounts, respectively, following separate reviews, according to sources.
Interpublic Group's McCann in Frankfurt, Germany (known as M.E.C.H., or McCann Erickson Communications House), kept Lufthansa's estimated $70 million global ad account after a review, sources said. The process began in February, with final presentations taking place in mid-May at the client's Cologne, Germany, headquarters.
Other finalists for the account included Omnicom Group's DDB in Berlin and Publicis Groupe's Leo Burnett in Frankfurt, sources said.
Separately, Wunderman's Frankfurt office, a unit of WPP Group's Y&R Brands, held onto the client's direct business in a review that included Publicis Dialog and WPP's JWT RMG Connect, both of which also pitched from their Frankfurt outposts.
The direct marketing budget could not immediately be determined.
The agencies either referred calls to the client or declined to comment. The client could not be reached.
