Long Haymes Carr Wins Midway Airlines

ATLANTA--Long Haymes Carr has won Midway Airlines' advertising account. The Winston-Salem, N.C. shop won the estimated $5 million business in a review that included Trone Advertising in High Point, N.C. and other undisclosed agencies.

The airline's turbulent balance sheet--in the last year its stock went into free-fall--led to its ditching Raleigh's McKinney & Silver in 1999, then handing off its advertising and marketing duties to Charlotte's Loeffler Ketchum Mountjoy.

LKM, in turn, resigned the business last month in a fierce disagreement over what direction Midway's advertising should take. Agency sources, at the time, said the regional carrier was looking for short-term retail advertising over longer term marketing initiatives.

The addition of Midway, which relocated to Raleigh-Durham N.C. from Chicago in 1995, further broadens Long Haymes Carr's extensive category list--its last airline industry association was with ill-fated Kiwi Airlines.
