HONOLULU – Four locals – no haoles – are finalists in the mandatory review for the Hawaii Visitors Bureau’s estimated $5-million account (ADWEEK, April 12, 1993). The Honolulu shops are: incumbent Milici Valenti Gabriel/DDB Needham, Peck Sims Mueller, Ogilvy & Mather and Starr Seigle McCombs.
Milici Valenti has kept the account for 24 years and through four reviews. The agency has survived management changes throughout and once again, new management is leading this review. But the fact that Hawaii tourism is at its weakest point in years also factors heavily into this contest and could prompt the bureau to make a change.
HVB named a new president and vp/marketing – Thomas Sakata and Tom Kiely – in September; the review began then.
