NEW YORK L.L. Bean has awarded creative and media duties on its estimated $20 million ad account to the WPP Group team of JWT and MEC Interaction, respectively, after a review, sources said.

The other finalists were Omnicom Group's DDB in New York and Interpublic Group's Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos in Boston.

Final pitches took place at L.L. Bean's headquarters earlier this week.

JWT in New York did not return calls, but sources said the Freeport, Maine-based client told the agencies of its decision on Thursday.

The review was managed by Boston consultancy Pile and Co., which, along with the client, could not immediately be reached.

The incumbent, Omnicom's Martin/Williams in Minneapolis, did not defend.

The finalists emerged last month from a field of six that also included Cossette Communications' Cossette Post, Publicis Groupe's Saatchi & Saatchi and Omnicom's BBDO [Adweek Online, Aug. 11].
